Berlin - The Cold War

5-Day Break

  • Day 1 – You fly to Berlin for a four-night stay.
  • Day 2 – Nazi Berlin (included). We look at the story of Hitler's rise and fall, visiting the Reichstag Building, the Olympic Stadium and Bell Tower, Brandenburg Gate and the former Chancellery area, standing above Hitler's bunker. We then discover the Topography of Terror (notorious SS/Gestapo areas) and the Karshorst Museum – the former Soviet HQ and location of theThird Reich surrender. B
  • Day 3 – Soviet Assault on Berlin (included). Starting from the Oder / Niesse river lines, we follow the final Soviet attack on Berlin, which was led by Zhukov. We will visit the Seelow Heights battlefield and also the museum at Seelow. The Soviet advance is followed through several interesting areas, including the area defended by the British Free Corps (a unit consisting of British prisoners of war, fighting with the SS). The day ends at the Soviet memorial in Treptow Park, commemorating the 330,000 casualties in the Battle for Berlin. B
  • Day 4 – Cold War Berlin (included). Discover the story of Berlin's Cold War experience. We visit the Allied Museum, Check Point Charlie, the remains of the Berlin Wall and Glienicke Bridge, upon which East and West would swap spies. We also visit the infamous Potsdam Conference Centre. B
  • Day 5 – Transfer to the airport and return flight home. B

Accommodation
You'll stay for four nights at the 4-star Ramada Hotel Berlin-Mitte which is in the centre of Berlin and only a few minutes' walk from the Brandenburg Gate.

There is an underground station approximately 100 metres from the hotel which provides a convenient way to explore the city. The hotel has a bar, restaurant and lift. All bedrooms have a T.V., telephone and hairdryer.
